First English post is a premiere here on www.gorunescu.ro, written as a tribute to Depeche Mode.
And it was #3.
The third concert of Depeche Mode in Romania, and first one in the beautiful Cluj-Napoca.
The live appearance was part of the 2017-2018 Global Spirit Tour, and it was the last one in Europe this summer. The tour continues in North America, and the next chance to see Depeche Mode back in Europe will be in Dublin, starting with the 15th of November. Details here.
Being at my 3rd encounter with Depeche Mode, I opted for a Golden Circle ticket, as it is the best concert experience. They started very punctual, at 20:45, with a nice countdown on their website:
Opening act was a young promising DJ, with some nice selection, Maya Jane Coles:
Just before the concert, we had a clip about the partnership between Depeche Mode and Swiss watchmaker Hublot, raising money and awareness for Charity: Water toward its mission of providing safe drinking water to everyone in the world:
The announced (and followed almost to the letter) setlist was:
- “Going Backwards“
- “So Much Love“
- “Barrel of a Gun” (Including a verse of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five‘s The Message)
- “A Pain That I’m Used To” (Jacques Lu Cont remix version)
- “Corrupt“
- “In Your Room“
- “World in My Eyes“
- “Cover Me“
- Song performed by Martin Gore
- Song performed by Martin Gore
- “Poison Heart“
- “Where’s the Revolution“
- “Wrong“
- “Everything Counts“
- “Stripped“
- “Enjoy the Silence“
- “Never Let Me Down Again“
- Song performed by Martin Gore
- “Walking in My Shoes“
- “Heroes” (David Bowie cover)
- “I Feel You“
- “Personal Jesus“
Then it was like this, some short movies made with the phone:
The surprise of the evening was Martin turned 56 that day. The Romanian funclub prepared, together with the band, a nice surprise for him. Fans installed a special app, with the message „Happy Birthday Martin!”, and they turned their phones toward him. This is what happened next:
And, as always, Dave unleashed his flamboyant personality on stage, making more than 40.000 people feeling as one. It was an exhilirating experience, very professionally organised, perfect concert sound. The band worked hard and passionate for the public. And the public responded.
For the final, you can say a lot about this concert, but I will only remember someone`s post on social media: „I have been to many concerts in my life, but now I realised I haven`t been to any concert!”
